In addition, it is possible to improve the accessibility of information by configuring your computer at the browser and operating system level. Below you will find an overview of the main support tools.

Zooming in on the content

Web browsers

We recommend using the functionality built into your web browser first to zoom in on the content.

In all popular web browsers, you can zoom in and out on a page by holding down the Ctrl key (the Cmd key on OS X) whilst pressing either the + or – key. Another comfortable option is to use the mouse: hold down the Ctrl key whilst moving the scroll wheel of the mouse. You can return to normal size by pressing the Ctrl and 0 keys at the same time.

Standalone programmes

All the most common operating systems include settings for zooming in on the content displayed on the screen.

Windows 10 and Windows 11: open the Start menu and type ‘Magnifier’, then press Enter. This opens the magnifying glass, which magnifies the selected area and follows the mouse cursor by default.

On Apple computers, follow these steps to use the zoom function: Apple menu > System Preferences > Accessibility (or Universal Access) > Zoom.

Web browser extensions

There are extensions for web browsers that allow you to zoom in on the content on the screen and enhance the browser’s existing functionality. For example, there is an extension called Zoom Page available for Chrome, which can be found in the Chrome Web Store

This extension allows you to zoom in on the entire page or just the text, as required.

Using a screen reader

A screen reader is a programme that attempts to interpret what is displayed on a computer screen and convey it in other forms – for example, as sounds or audio commentary. This is primarily an aid for the visually impaired.

The content on this website has been created in accordance with standards compatible with screen readers and in such a way that all types of visual content can be reproduced in another format. For example, the images are accompanied by text descriptions, and the layout and order of the elements take into account the screen reader’s movement across the screen, enabling information to be consumed in a logical sequence.
