Apostille Register
National register
The Apostille Register and its self-service portal simplify the process of requesting, issuing and verifying apostilles. The register facilitates the cross-border circulation of documents, making the process faster, more secure and more transparent.
What is the Apostille Register?
Since 1 December 2017, users can submit apostille requests for official documents electronically. Apostille requests are made via the self-service portal. There, you can choose between four different types of apostille.
Certifying a paper document with a paper apostille
A paper document is submitted to the notary.
When an apostille is issued, a paper apostille is affixed to the document.
Certifying a paper document with an e-apostille
A paper document is submitted to the notary.
The notary scans the document and adds an e-apostille to it in the digital container.
Certifying a digital document with a paper apostille
A digitally signed document or a document with an organisation’s digital stamp is submitted to the notary.
The notary prints out the document and affixes a paper apostille to it.
Certifying a digital document with an e-apostille
A digitally signed document or a document with an organisation’s digital stamp is submitted to the notary.
The notary adds an e-apostille to the digital container of the document.
Issuing and verifying apostilles
Once a notary has issued an apostille for a document, it can be forwarded to the recipient (e.g. a foreign public authority). The apostille is entered in the register, where its validity can be verified. Electronically signed documents can be opened without any additional software. If necessary, a document with an e-apostille can be emailed directly to the recipient.
Secure and reliable system
The Apostille Register ensures that requestors cannot alter the documents that have been issued. Each apostille is linked to a specific document and can be verified via the register. In the interests of data security, the recipient must always check that an apostille is present and valid, in order to prevent forgeries.
Reliability
Every apostille can be verified via the Apostille Register.
Security
The data in the Apostille Register cannot be altered or falsified.
Convenience
No additional software is required to verify the authenticity of apostilles.
