International relations of the Chamber of Notaries
International cooperation
The Estonian Chamber of Notaries has been a member of the International Union of Notaries (UINL) since 1995. The Estonian Chamber of Notaries has been a member of the Council of the Notariats of the European Union (CNUE) since 2004. We participate actively in the activities of both international organisations and in the work of the committees and working groups operating within them.
Partners abroad
In addition to representing notaries and upholding ethical standards, the Chamber carries out a number of practical tasks. The Chamber’s day-to-day work also involves international cooperation and supporting the legislative drafting process. The cross-border exchange of information and experience ensures that the work of the notaries meets the needs of modern society.
The Chamber of Notaries participates in the activities of the CNUE through various working groups. Meetings of the heads of all member notariats are held several times a year to discuss current issues and lines of action.
The Chamber of Notaries participates in the work of the UINL General Council and the Committee on European Affairs (CAE). Meetings of the heads of notariats – General Council meetings – are held twice a year.
At present, 93 countries are members of the UINL. Participation in the UINL’s activities therefore provides a good insight into what is happening in the associations of notaries of the majority of the world’s countries.
The Estonian Chamber of Notaries has a long-standing and close working relationship with the Council of Sworn Notaries of Latvia. Roundtables of the associations of Baltic notaries have been taking place for 30 years now to exchange information and experiences and discuss development opportunities.
