Succession
Succession is the process by which a deceased person’s possessions, rights and obligations transfer to their successors. Succession begins upon a person’s death, when their estate is opened. The successors and their rights are determined during the succession proceedings. You must always contact a notary with succession matters – even if you are the sole successor or if a will has been made in your favour. Read more on the succession page of our succession web.
Succession
If a person does not make arrangements for their death, their estate is inherited in accordance with the law. If the bequeather wants the division of their estate to differ from that prescribed by law, it is important to set out these desires clearly and unambiguously in writing. Learn about the various options on the bequeathing page of our succession web portal.
Will
You can specify with your will who your successors are and what share of your estate each person is to inherit.
A will can also be used to bequeath specific items – such as an apartment, a car or an art collection – to particular individuals.
You can find more information about wills on the will page of our succession web portal.
